David Kenney, who was a member of the Illinois Constitutional Convention which drew the 1970 Illinois constitution, has revised his now-standard text from firsthand, authoritative knowledge of State government. This new and up-to-date edition therefore includes the latest information on Illinois's government from 1818 to the present. As in the previous edition of his text, Kenney begins with an historical summary of the period preceding statehood. He then discusses the state's political, economic, and social development. The principal strength of the text remains, however, the clear, authoritative description of Illinois's modern political structure.
