This publication, of which the sections on synoptic charts and early forecasting in the United States and abroad are mainly historical, aims to present an account of the methods and practices of weather forecasters so that the average citizen who is interested in such matters may have at his disposal a connected account not only of the material used but also of the manner of its use. This publication is not a handbook of weather forecasting and is not intended to transmit skill in weather forecasting without the user first acquiring a working knowledge of meteorology.
