註釋The Nazi Party in Paraguay was founded in 1929. Its political strength was marginal, but its ideology influenced Paraguayan nationalism at a time of political and economic crisis, violent demonstrations, and repression. Local Nazism was encouraged by the large German colony. Ch. 3 (pp. 56-67), "La intolerancia politica y racial acompana a las ideas totalitarias, " surveys modern antisemitism, especially in Germany, and describes German attempts to export Nazism to Latin America, and to Paraguay in particular. Italian fascism also found local sympathizers. The local press, influenced by Nazi propaganda, attacked Jewish immigration to Paraguay. This resulted in the failure of the plan in 1938 to settle 1,000 Jewish refugees in a rural area of Concepcion.
