Gender Equality and the Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development
註釋This paper is one of a suite of background papers being prepared for UN Women to assess progress and remaining gaps in achieving this goal, and highlight gender perspectives on the two conference themes. It reviews the role of gender equality in the current environment governance system, focusing on the core components of the International Framework for Sustainable Development [IFSD]. These include the key international agreements: the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), Agenda 21 and the Rio Declaration. They also include core global institutions addressing sustainable development: the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The paper will also comment on the role of UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The critical role of financing will be briefly introduced in this paper, but it is not the major focus.
