Disease Overview: The poor control of hypertension appears to be the result of poor detection and awareness of the condition, coupled with inadequate treatment. Drug Review: Irbesartan is a selective and potent AT1-receptor antagonist, which produces greater functional antagonism of AT II than other agents in its class. Improving Practice: Primary care still bears the responsibility for implementing best practice and must respond by developing new strategies to deliver enhanced, focused and appropriate care for our hypertensive patients.
