Poverty and Income Distribution in Latin America
註釋Living Standards Measurement Survey Working Paper No. 129. Monitoring poverty is critical in assessing the successes of policies designed to improve standards of living. The Living Standards Measurement Surveys (LSMS) are among several sources that contribute to databases in developing countries that are used for this type of policy monitoring. This paper expands on earlier LSMS papers, which showed how to approach the measurement of poverty statistically, by describing the use of typical sample designs in calculating statistical measures of poverty change. It draws on LSMS data sets both to show how household surveys differ greatly from the simple random sample paradigm and to illustrate the importance of basing statistical formulae on the actual sample design in use.
