註釋Painter, sculptor, and draughtsman Immendorff is arguably one of the most important German artists of the post-war period. The artist, who died in 2007, was a close friend of Agnes and Karlheinz Essl, two art collectors whose private collection includes many of Immendorff's works, in addition to other important contemporaries of the artist, such as Georg Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer, and Gerhard Richter. This exhibition catalog serves as tribute to the work of Immendorff and features more than 70 paintings, drawings, and sculptures dating from the 1960s, in addition to numerous texts and letters. The range of Immendorff's oeuvre reflects his early involvement with politics and social issues and his gradual movement toward existential ideas. A highlight of this volume is a series of 32 sketches, created exclusively for the Essls, and never before published in book form.
