Objectives: Characterize the current state of art on Palliative Care Psychiatry Background and aims: According to the World Health Organization definition, Palliative Care improves the quality of life of patients and families who face life-threatening illness, by providing pain and symptom relief, spiritual and psychosocial support. Individuals with serious medical illness, particularly as they approach the very end of life, often experience significant psychological distress are at increased risk of psychiatric illness. We aim to systematize the opportunities and roles for psychiatry within palliative care and review the areas in which psychiatry palliative care has recently evolved.Materials and methods: A literature search on palliative care manuals and on PubMed using the keywords.
