"In selection of content for my master's recital, I attempted to create an emotional experience through a musical journey. It is my view that an effective program not only contains moving individual pieces of music, but moves on a larger scale as well and the succession of pieces should retain a logical, overarching development. To create a cohesive program, I took the various aspects of each piece into consideration, such as style, tempo, timbres, and energy level. A static stream of any of these aspects can lose the interest of an audience, negatively impacting the overall flow. The intention was to use an array of these elements to create a progression or sequence of musical events that would hold the attention of the audience throughout the recital. I carefully arranged my pieces in an order that provides variety within a developmental contour." -- Introduction.
