Benefit-cost Evaluation of MoDOT's Total Striping and Delineation Program
註釋"In 2005 and 2006, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) undertook a major program, known as the Smooth Roads Initiative (SRI), to improve both the rideability and the visibility of over 2,300 mi of major roadways in Missouri. Midwest Research Institute (MRI) conducted research for MoDOT to: • evaluate the safety effectiveness of SRI improvements • use the safety evaluation results together with improvement cost data to perform a benefit-cost evaluation • assess public perception or satisfaction with the improved striping and delineation. The safety evaluation indicated that the striping and delineation program resulted in an overall reduction of 8 percent in fatal-and-disabling-injury crashes and 6 percent in fatal-and-all-injury crashes. The striping and delineation improvements appeared to be particularly effective in reducing multiple-vehicle crashes. Results of the benefit-cost evaluation suggested that the SRI projects had an overall benefit-cost ratio of 7.8. A survey of Missouri motorists indicated that 57 percent of survey respondents believe the striping and delineation improvements increase the general level of safety on Missouri roadways, and 79 percent believe the improvements have been a good investment of taxpayer dollars"--Abstract.
