Porcher, El Paso, Texas, writing to his uncle and discussing his farm operations "for the present our income from the dairy and other sources barely keep us going, but so far we have been able to keep out of debt." However they are anticipating a bountiful first harvest and mentioning his irrigation system "which our Mexican laborers understand most thoroughly." Letter from S.E. Ravenel, Pineville, South Carolina mentioning the production of various grain crops, observing "The hands up here are completely spoiled, & are insulted if you expect them to eat corn." It is also noted that her husband had gone to Clemson to bring four cadets for Sunday dinner."
