John Luard was an ordinary regimental officer in the British Army during the nineteenth century, taking part in the Napoleonic Wars and in campaigns in India. He was also an author and an artist, and wrote a diary for a large part of his life. These diary entries form the backbone of this book about his experiences as an officer with the British Army.
