註釋Wolfe Tone was a leader in the United Irishmen. Discouraged with the lack of progress being made in peaceful negotiations to free Ireland from British rule, he invited the French to invade Ireland. He believed that his fellow countrymen would support them in the overthrow of the English. This book details the invasion and the defeat of the French Naval forces at Bantry Bay. Tone was on board a French ship. He was courtmartialed and sentenced to death.
