註釋
Twenty-one letters, dated Dec. 8-Nov. 11, written by Adams in the San Francisco Bay Area to his wife (15 letters) and daughter (6 letters) in Dixon, Calif., Dublin, N.H., and New York City. The letters discuss personal financial and family matters, including arrangements for shipping and selling belongings; the changing values of Adams's mining stocks, which include holdings with Crown Point and Julia mines; prospects for employment, which includes work with the Central Pacific Railroad (CPRR); and Adams's plans to go to Ariz., particularly to Prescott, presumably in search of gold. With these are a letter to Idella from her grandmother, S. Adams, dated Mar. 17, 1877, written from N.H., and a postcard from Mrs. Slater to Mrs. Adams.
