By virtue of Christ's death on the cross, we are delivered from the authority of darkness. Sin has no right to lord it over us. This is the privilege of every child of God. It is for him to know that he is made free from sin's authority.

Hence deliverance is not a question of battling against sin, with a view to making oneself free, but of taking the freedom already secured to us by Christ.
