When Hamilton, a lecturer at Sydney University, meets Frank, a childhood enemy from primary school, his careful life explodes. For a while it seems that a buried affair with Isabelle, his stepdaughter, is about to be exposed. Till death takes a hand. Hamilton leaves hurriedly for New Zealand under a cloud of guilt. He intends to start anew, and for a while he seems to succeed, but the past will not be buried and eventually returns to Sydney and the scene of his sins.
