The major instrument adopted for use was Science Reasoning Tasks (SRTs) 2&3. SRT 2 has internal consistency of 78 and test retest reliability. Coefficient of 84 while task 3 has internal consistency of .83 and test-retest reliability coefficient of. 79. Data collected were analyzed using t-test statistic and the result showed that there is a significant difference in the mean cognitive attainment of senior secondary physics students from urban and rural schools as well as for those from single-sex and coeducational schools in task 2 test. However, there was no significant difference in the mean cognitive attainment of senior secondary physics students from urban and rural schools as well as for those from single-sex and coeducational schools in cognitive tasks test score.
