註釋
This book describes ways in which schools can rewrite the social/educational contract so that more and more of the population can be educated at higher standards. The book advocates a new way of thinking about education, beginning with the notion that all children can learn. In order to craft a new system, schools must develop an aim and they must be managed. It is recommended here that the aim of schools be a "learning for all" mission and that this mission be carefully measured. Some high-yield strategies (concepts or principles supported by research that will result in significant improvement in assessed student achievement) for reaching this aim are detailed. The first high-yield strategy is for schools to teach what they test and ensure that opportunity is available for everyone. Schools make difficult decisions on determining students' time on task, on restructuring schools in accordance with proven systems and research, and on organizing learning so that it accords with research on effective cognitive strategies. Other important concerns addressed here deal with the use of technology, the use of high-impact learning, and the role of partnerships to further learning. (RJM)
