Jacob Johan Beck (b.1856) married Lina Matilde Zahl in 1879, and immigrated from Norway to Normanna, Texas in 1894, where he intro- duced and began growing a new crop in 1894 known as broom corn-- which became a popular crop and led to various broom factories.
