註釋
Describes a small-scale research study of academically successful students in grades 5 to 8 in 3 Toronto inner city schools. Aims to answer the questions: what distinguishes these children from their less successful peers; and what characteristics of their home environments, their own range of adaptive responses, and their personal networks contribute to their success? Uses interviews with students, parents and teachers for a sample of 30 students and a control group of 8 students. Summarizes the way teachers describe the students, parents' and students' views of the value of education, strategies of successful students, parental practices and strategies, parent/teacher and parent/school links, and implications for schools and classroom teachers.
