"Englewood Tales" is a series of interrelated short stories about African American children and teenagers growing up on the Southside of Chicago during the 1970s and 1980s.Each unique story is told from the viewpoint of its own hero or heroine faced with - and responding to - personal conflicts, ranging from bullying, incest, and child abuse, to sexual behavior, murder, death, and homosexuality.
While "Englewood Tales" is about children and teenagers, it is not a "children's" book. The language, as well as the subject matter, is both candid and framed for a mature audience, who can appreciate having come through to the other side.
