Two old-timers take a liking to him and visit him daily. While there they talk and discuss the war and its many battles and conflicts as they read about them in the daily newspaper. Hunter's imagination absorbs these conversations and his dreams carry him off to high adventures and exciting escapades. Through his dreams, we the reader get to see history and the Civil War from a different point of view, through the eyes of a 12 year old boy.
