This is a story from the years of war in the 10th century Spain. The central character is Henry of Gures, a dispossessed nobleman who grew up in a monastery. Now, Henry is a young man who struggles between his duty as a monk and his love interest in a secret relationship. As Joan, the woman he loves, disappears during an enemy raid, Henry must travel with an unexpected ally through a war-torn land to rescue Joan while struggling between his first love and the growing attraction he feels for a pagan woman. This romance, based on historical events and characters, depicts a time when passions, sins, religion and violence ruled life in the territory that now belongs to Spain and Portugal.
