Mixed Methods Analysis of Occupational Burnout and Engagement Experienced by Certified Athletic Trainers in High School Settings
註釋ABSTRACT: Using mixed-methods and purposeful sampling procedures, four ATCs working in the high school setting were identified as being in phase V or VI of burnout and four were identified as being occupationally engaged. All eight individuals were then interviewed on three separate occasions using a semi-structured approach. A grounded theory analysis was then conducted to identify the sources of stress, challenges and coping responses of these individuals and how their unique stressors changed and evolved over time. Burned out individuals listed 33 distinct stressors, 29 challenges and 46 coping strategies. Occupationally engaged individuals listed 19 stressors, 21 challenges and 40 coping strategies. Overall the athletic trainers in this sample coped consistently with their stressors with few mismatches with the controllability of the stressor and the coping strategy.
