Three Speeches and a Dialogue by William Henry Winthrop, Jr
註釋Consists of three speeches and a dialogue delivered by William Henry Winthrop when he was a student. The first speech is titled "Autumn" where Winthrop writes about the changes of the season. The second is titled "Speech at Sligo" and is about the persecution and exile of Catholics in Ireland. The speech is signed by Winthrop at the end, and dated New London, March 12, 1834. Here Winthrop wrote that he delivered it first at the Ellington School, in New London, Connecticut, at the close of the winter session in April 1834, as well as at Nassau Hall on February 20, 1836. The third speech is untitled, however, it was delivered at Nassau Hall, College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) to his "Fellow Classmates" giving them advice to learn from past famous perons in history, and bidding them farewell as they are about to graduate from college. This speech is also signed by Winthrop and dated September 16, 1836, when he was in his sophomore year. The dialogue follows the "Speech at Sligo" and it is titled "The Niece." It too is signed by Winthrop, and spoken at the Ellington School in New London, at the close of the winter session on April 9, 1834.
