註釋This publication presents data on migration topics for the EU and its 15 Member States, as well as the European Economic Area, Switzerland and other selected central and eastern European countries, Cyprus and Malta. Data are given mainly for the years 1999 and 2000, as well as including some historical data tables. It also includes a CD-ROM containing the tables with a more detailed statistical breakdown. Key points include: the EU population grew by about one million during 2000 with all 15 EU member states experiencing positive net migration; without international migration the populations of Germany, Greece, Italy and Sweden would be in decline; the number of asylum applications in the 15 EU member states in 2000 was similar to that of 1999; and in 2000, the UK recorded more asylum applications than Germany.
