This book-video package provides a unique introduction to cultural anthropology that utilizes ethnographic film to teach anthropology.This brief book focuses on 14 cultures which are used to illustrate concepts throughout. This provides a unique opportunity to present a holistic view of these cultures. These fourteen cultures are also the subject of the 21 film clips that accompany the book. With the introduction of each culture, a Focus Culture Overview box (including a map showing the location of the culture) will highlight key facts about the culture. In addition, each chapter in the book highlights one or more films, which are described in the Seeing Anthropology feature. This feature includes a case study of the culture in the film, and a set of questions that direct the reader/viewer to look at certain key elements in the film. Through these questions, the reader/viewer will learn about the cultures represented as well as learning how to watch ethnographic films. A video including 10 minute clips from each film will be packaged with the book. Many of the films will be available for adopters for purchase or rental at a discount from DER (Documentary Educational Resources), while the others can be obtained through distributors listed in the book.
