Distributions of rare vascular plants are described within the Arctic Tundra Unified Ecoregion of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska for the purpose of conducting inventories in selected areas to gather baseline conservation data to aid habitat management. Adequate knowledge of the ecology and distribution of rare plant species is needed due to potential effects by oil exploration and development coupled with rapidly change climate of the circumpolar north.
