“Curves in the Line is narrated with the Thar Desert as the backdrop, in transition period of pre and the post-independence struggle of India against the British rule in India. The narration moves between a small village Bhiwali, and Jodhpur City in the in the Indian state of Rajasthan.
During this period, Jodhpur is a princely city where kings traditionally offered land or an entire village as Zamindari to worthy citizens. Only a few families enjoyed the privilege of being Zamindars of a village and the Joshi family was one amongst them.
The protagonist Chhagan is part of this rather large family. He is one of the three children of Achaldas (father) and Issa (mother). His brother is Tejraj and his sister Aachuki, is married to Roopraj, they have a son Kesio and a daughter Inderi. Chhagan’s father is the youngest of the three brothers. The eldest being Moolraj, who is married to Ba. Udayraj, the next brother, is married to Nani. Govraj, Hari and Damodar are Udayraj’s sons.”
