註釋A laboratory evaluation has been made of the QuikRead whole blood cholesterol assay system. Specific attention was directed to evaluation of the suitability of the instrument for use in primary care. Although the instrument is simple to use, the many operator dependent steps necessary for obtaining accurate and precise results could pose problems for unskilled non-laboratory personnel. Adequate instructions and training are therefore crucial for obtaining acceptable results. Problems in using appropriate volumes of external quality assessment serum samples with the whole blood assay were also identified. Instruction manuals were unsatisfactory and the safety of operation by non-technical personnel requires some attention. An improved instruction manual is currently in preparation by Anglo European Health.
