The Random House Dictionary for Writers and Readers
註釋Grambs's earlier "Words About Words" ( LJ 5/15/84) is here retitled and repackaged for a softbound edition. About 2000 terms somehow relating to prose usage, speech, stylistic devices, or literary distinctions are defined, often with quotations illustrating use of the terms in published works. Many of the terms or expressions being defined are, without examples, just abstractions. Supplementary topical material ("Advertising Weasel Words,'' "Parts of a Book,'' "The Language of Comic Double-Talk,'' "Libel,'' "Fair Use'') lends some focus to an otherwise eclectic assortment of words both familiar and obscure. Most likely this will please those with xenoglossophilia (love of foreign or otherwise strange words), seekers after the mot juste , and other word buffs.--William A. Donovan, Chicago P.L. -Library Journal.
