Rennais and Erri have left the picturesque Scottish town of Nairnshire for a tropical home on a private island. It is an island that has belonged to the Selkies (descendants of the Lost City of Atlantis) for centuries. A misty shroud that defies radar surrounds it so that it cannot be found on any map nor seen from an aerial view, and finally Rennais feels that she, her Selkie lover, and their children will be safe. Fate has other plans. In the aftermath of a colossal storm, survivors of a shipwreck wash up on shore, and the population is apprehensive. One in particular, a young black haired Captain named Rory Kennedy seems to have eyes only for Rennais. The Selkie High Council is divided on whether the stranger should be sent packing after they recover from their wounds, or offered sanctuary. In the meantime another threat from below the ocean's surface is brewing, and the Selkies must prepare for a war with the new rulers of the fabled lost city of Atlantis. In the midst of this unexpected turmoil, Erri goes out diving for treasure one day and vanishes.
