Water, which at first sight might appear to be the source of the cityscape itself, is in fact an element that Venice could not live without and which imposes its own mark on the city, conditioning its urban development and form. The churches of Venice are by no means an exception to this immutable law of nature: along with water, they characterize the areas they are built in and the small islands, where they are very often the most important, and usually the most majestic building.

Architects and painters like Mauro Codussi, Jacopo Sansovino, Giovanni Bellini and Paolo Veronesi, respectively, as well as sculptors and decorators have contributed to making these holy sites unforgettable.
