Empirical Assessment of Lanius Et Al.s' Functional MRI of EMDR in Peacekeepers
註釋This report reviews a research proposal recently submitted to National Defence for funding consideration. The major objective of the proposed research is to assess the relationship between post traumatic stress disorder and brain function as assessed with functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain structures, and to determine whether an eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (EMDR) intervention causes those structures to return to a normal mode of functioning. The first section reviews the goals of the proposal and the second section examines the therapeutic effectiveness of EMDR as reported in the literature. The final section discusses concerns regarding the requested funding and makes recommendations whether the research should go ahead. The appendix contains a selected annotated bibliography of EMDR research reviews.
