註釋Surveys the history of the Łódź ghetto, which was established at the end of 1939; 320,000 Jews were interned there between 1939-44. Ch. 1 (pp. 1-168) discusses the structure of the ghetto, workshops and factories, proclamations concerning food supply, deportations, etc.; includes a section on the murder of 5,000 Sinti and Roma in the ghetto in 1941. Ch. 2 (pp. 169-187) contains information on war criminals from the area of Lodz, including a detailed list of names: six were sentenced to death, three were imprisoned for life, three were sentenced to prison for 1-13 years; against 58 of the criminals the proceedings were suspended, and 102 were declared unknown by the authorities. Ch. 3 (pp. 189-248) contains lists of names of Jews who were deported to Łódź from various places, and reports on 140,000 Jews who were murdered or died because of the awful conditions in the ghetto.
