註釋Ch. 3 (p. 335-528), "Izgoi sredi izgoyev - yevrei-voyennoplennye" ["Outsiders among Outsiders: Jewish POWs"], describes the fate of Jewish Soviet POWs in German captivity. Presents Nazi army orders concerning the treatment of Soviet Jewish POWs. Relates how the Nazis screened Soviet POWs in search of Jews, and the subsequent abuse and murder of those Jews. Many Jewish POWs were betrayed to the Germans by their non-Jewish comrades. Dwells on the role of the camp police, recruited from amongst the prisoners themselves, in disclosing Jewish POWs. The hostile attitude of many Soviet POWs toward their Jewish comrades was predetermined by the rise of antisemitism before the war and its drastic upsurge in the Soviet rear and in the Red Army during the war. Some Jewish soldiers registered in the army as non-Jews for fear of antisemitism. Nazi anti-Jewish propaganda played a role in rising antisemitism among Soviet civilians and soldiers. Notes that alongside the many cases of betrayal of Jewish POWs to the Germans, refusals to help, etc., there were also many cases of rescue of Jews and a show of comradeship on the part of their fellow POWs.
