註釋
Klukowski (1885-1959) was the medical director of the government hospital in Szczebrzeszyn in the Zamość district. He was not Jewish. His diary contains many entries describing the fate of the Jews in Szczebrzeszyn, Zamość, and surrounding towns and villages. Jews were humiliated, taken for forced labor, their property was confiscated or robbed, the town center was closed to them and those living there were evicted. Jews were shot at the whim of German soldiers; Klukowski was permitted to administer first aid to the wounded but not to hospitalize them. In October-early November 1942 all the Jews were hunted down; between 2,000-3,000 were shot on the spot or massacred in the cemetery; ca. 1,000 were taken to Bełżec. Some Jews hid or escaped to the forest, but most of them were eventually caught. On 23 January 1944 mentions 400 Jews still working at the Klemensow military airfield, of whom 26 escaped.
