Answers to the great question which appears on the title page have filled many a volume, and have been the theme of our most accomplished orators on the platform, at the bar, and in the senate; and yet it must be acknowledged that the whole expositions separately and combined have not proved so satisfactory or so explicit as to receive universal approval. All seem to agree in prescribing education as a cure for the evils of society, and yet we scarcely meet with two pera sons who agree as to what education actually is, or what is meant by the term.
