The University of St Andrews Centre for Syrian Studies was founded in November 2006. The mission of the Centre is to foster scholarship and dialogue about contemporary Syria---particularly in the areas of economic and political reform and security and foreign policy issues---as well as exchanges between Syrian and other scholars. Centre fellows do research in St Andrews and Syria and their findings are disseminated through a website, periodic conferences, and a publishing program. The director of the Centre is Professor Raymond Hinnebusch, and the Centre is funded by the Asfari Foundation with offices in London and Aberdeen. --Book Jacket.
