Letter, dated March 12th 1846, from United States Army officer and West Point graduate John Fitzgerald Lee to his friend John, whose surname is unspecified, detailing the political climate of the United States in 1846. Lee discusses Zachary Taylor's Army of Occupation in Texas in preparation for the Mexican War, the Oregon question and boundary dispute between England and the United States, public approval in the Western United States for President Polk, and happenings in Congress concerning Lee and John's mutual friend James A. Black. Lee ends the letter discussing more mutual friends of his and John's and requesting John to remember him to their fellow classmates.
