This study uses an exceptionally large dataset; 48 to 127 pharmaceuticals, X-ray contrast media and endocrine disrupting chemicals were monitored at 9 sampling locations along the river Rhine in Switzerland (1), Germany (4) and the Netherlands (4) over a period of 7 years, resulting in over 5000 positive detections of pharmaceuticals in the aqueous samples.
