Captain John W. Barr's Company was organized in 1863 and was at that time Captain John T. Levi's Company of Light Artillery, Thomas' Legion, North Carolina Troops. It was formed from disbanded troops of the Virginia State Line and was also known as Barr's Battery or Barr's Artillery or Levi's Battery.
