註釋
The Algorithmic Accountability Act of 2022 proposes action against the unrestrained and invisible impact that algorithms can have in our society. But the specifics of this bill raise a lot of unanswered questions that can make it a difficult bill to push through governmental bodies. Arguably, the most important term of the bill “impact assessment” is confusing. What resources would be required to create such an elaborate exploration of algorithms? Is this feat achievable with just the FTC & attorney generals in action? In this working paper, we report on the results of conducting two mock algorithmic impact assessments using the framework proposed by the Ada Lovelace Institute. Our experience shows that passing on the job of defining the standards for impact assessments to a single agency enforcing their application across industries is likely to be considerably difficult, as those standards will need to vary greatly across industries and use cases.
