Thirteen of the approximately 64 caves on Fort Leonard Wood were selected for survey, inventory, and field-testing of the monitoring protocols. The survey involved construction of detailed base maps of cave interiors and transit maps of exterior contexts, documentation of the distribution and condition of cultural resources (if any), and baseline inventory of biological taxa found both within and immediately exterior to the caves.
