註釋
Moringa oleifera growing in native wet and dry habitats of Muthagoundanoor, Salem District, Tamil Nadu, were compared with respect to morphological, anatomical and physiological features. Drought condition had a promontory effect on all the observed morphological features and distinctly altered the anatomy of stem and petiole for efficient absorption and conservation of available water. Even under drought condition, Moringa oleifera continued to grow and accumulate proline inside the cells to maintain high osmotic potential. Fruit yield with good nutritive parameters was significantly high even under drought condition. Moringa oleifera showed variation in morphological, anatomical and physiological features that could help to resist drought condition. The exact mechanism of drought resistance is not clearly understood.
