註釋
During the first quarter of the 19th century playing cards were still being printed in much the same way as they had been in the preceeding 400 years. By the 1860's the scene had been totally transformed by colour lithography. Much of this rapid progress in colour printing was due to the research and experiments of Thomas De La Rue - the father of the English playing card as we know it today.
