The Metis in Alberta Society, with Special Reference to Social, Economic and Cultural Factors Associated with Persistently High Tuberculosis Incidence
註釋"In the early 1950's, the Alberta Tuberculosis Association, the Tuberculosis Control Division of the Alberta Department of Public Health, and the Indian Health Services of the Department of National Health and Welfare, were working as a close-knit team detecting, treating and rehabilitating persons suffering from tuberculosis in Alberta. As shown in Chapter 2, the prospect of tuberculosis control among the white population of Alberta was in view, control measures among Reserve Indians were organized and being implemented, but the whole control program was dependent upon elimination of "pools" of tubercular infection found primarily in Northern Alberta and among persons of Indian ancestry. Surveys in Metis colonies and in Northern Alberta communities with Metis populations showed an alarming number of cases. In 1951, the President of the Association in his Annual Report made a statement of policy, virtual declaration of all-out war, which indicated new strategy in the fight against tuberculosis. The thinking which led to the present study can be said to have begun at this time."-- Introduction.
