註釋
An account of the war crimes trials held by People's Courts in Hungary after the war. Based on material collected for a documentary film produced by the authors in 1984. Vol. I includes material on the anti-Jewish legislation of the 1930s and the massacre of Jews and Serbs at Novi Sad in 1942 by Hungarian soldiers and gendarmerie. Vol. II includes a chapter on the Holocaust in Hungary after the German occupation in March 1944 (pp. 69-138). Gives the testimonies of Edmund Veesenmayer (sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Nuremberg tribunal, but released in 1952), Otto Winkelmann (head of the SS and police), and Hungarian officials responsible for the persecution of Jews and deportations. Describes the trial of Ferenc Szálasi, Arrow Cross leader and Prime Minister from October 1944 to the end of the war, who was sentenced to death and executed in 1946. Includes documents, photographs, and extracts from the protocols of the trials.
