註釋Presents a biography, first published in 1948, of Emil Julius Meilicke, who emigrated to the United States in 1866 and settled in Minnesota. He became a prosperous farmer and was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives and the State Senate. After visiting a Canadian agricultural exhibit, he decided to visit the Canadian plains and subsequently purchased land near Dundurn, Saskatchewan. His success at farming was instrumental in attracting many other settlers to the region under the leadership of the founders of the Saskatchewan Valley Land Company. His story of pioneer life indicates the crucial role played by American farmers and businessmen in the settlement and development of the Canadian plains.
