Memoirs of a Jew born in 1920, who grew up in Kaposvar, Hungary; pp. 11-41 relate his experiences in a military labor battalion from October 1940-January 1943. Jews were inducted into the battalions because they were considered "unreliable." Describes the harsh treatment of Jews by some of the Hungarian officers; of the 240 Jews in Miller's group, only eight survived. In January 1943 Miller managed to escape and joined the Czech brigade of the Soviet army, participating in the liberation of Czechoslovakia; in 1949 he emigrated to Israel.
